Five Reasons Mets Fans Shouldn’t Panic

The New York Mets are down 2-0 in the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. In order to win, the Mets must win four games before the Royals win two more. Mets GM Sandy Alderson once referred to the team’s beat writers as “the citizens of Panic City.” A back-page headline in New York Thursday morning played off that phrase. But to quote Will Ferrell in Old School, “We’ve gotta keep our composure! We’ve come too far! There’s too much to lose!” Here are five reasons why Mets fans shouldn’t panic.

The Mets Are Going to the World Series

The Mets are going to the World Series after sweeping the Cubs on Wednesday night to claim the National League pennant. If you thought a minor plot point in a sci-fi movie was going to stop this Mets team, I’ve got a hoverboard to sell you. The Mets have played nine games in this postseason and won seven of them. They might be perfect if Chase Utley’s genetic composition wasn’t 80 percent dirt (or the umpires had acknowledged the manifestation of said dirt and made the right call).

MLB Recap: Fernandez, Cain, Moore Debut

Three star pitchers who had different injuries make their season debut on Thursday. Steven Matz of the Mets made his major league debut earlier in the week, and a Cleveland pitcher came within one strike of a no-hitter. Hitters get their share of attention in my latest MLB recap, too — Prince Fielder hit a milestone homer this week and MLB announced changes to the Home Run Derby.
